Top 4 Epic Winter Smoothie Recipes

Winter is here in full force in Australia, but to all our smoothie lovers – we've come to save the day!

Jasmine, from The Wholesome Heart has come up with her favourite Winter Smoothies, that incorporate all the incredible produce we have in winter, the warming flavours and most importantly well balanced and nourishing! You can sip on these delights for a sweet fix, a breaky on the run or just enjoy them because they are so damn delicious!

Winter Clean & Green

This smoothie is loaded with goodness. It will assist your body to detoxify and hydrate it at any time of the day! You can mix and match the choice of fruit, maybe one day try a Green Apple, the next Orange, whatever winter fruits take your fancy!

It is super refreshing and hydrating which is sometimes what we forget we need during the colder months.

Ingredients (*Choose organic where possible)

- Thumbnail-sized piece of ginger (grated)

- 1 cup Coconut Water

- 1 stick of Celery

- 1 handful of Kale/Spinach (I love using both!)

- 1 handful Kiwi  

- 1 large sprig of Parsley

Method

- Add all ingredients to your blender/Nutribullet, blend for 1 minute and enjoy!

Chocolatey Chai Smoothie

Wowwwweee this combination is GENIUS! If I don’t say so myself.

Not only is freaking delicious, but it gives you you’re a massive fibre hit with both Pear AND Ground Flaxseeds… which is sometimes just what you need in winter. 

If you love Chai, you are going to fall madly in love with this winter smoothie. All the flavours balance so nicely, it is nice and sweet yet feels like a big hug in a cup. You could even warm your almond milk and have a warm nourishing smoothie.

This one is def worth a try and will be on high rotate for your winter smoothies… trust me! 

Ingredients (*Choose organic where possible)

- 1 cup of Almond Milk

- Handful Spinach

- ½ Banana (frozen)

- ½ Pear (cored and cut into smaller pieces)

- 2 tsp Cacao Powder

- ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon

- ½ tsp Nutmeg

- Pinch of Ground Cardamom

- Pinch of Ground Cloves

- 1 tsp ground Flax Seeds

Method

- Add all ingredients to your blender/Nutribullet, blend for 1 minute and voila! Chocolaty Chai goodness.

Gingerbread Man Smoothie

Do you remember the deeeelish gingerbread men you use to eat as a child? Those scrumptious flavours and spicy kick! Well now you can enjoy all those flavours using spices you have in your cupboard, to make the easiest and YUMMIEST Smoothie. Its pretty much like a gingerbread party in your mouth.

It tastes like it’s a dessert but it had immune boosting ingredients to help you fight off those nasty cold & flu’s.

I used fresh grated ginger in this recipe, not only because its fricken yum and gives the best spicy kick to the smoothie but because ginger is well known for its warming effect on the body – aka warming up your insides to get things moving. It assists the body to breakdown toxins and purify the lymphatic system. Which is extremely important during winter so we don’t have a build-up of toxic waste that can compromise the body’s natural functions and weaken the immune system.

Ginger is also a super hero when it comes to digestion, it can help ease bloating nausea and constipation, and finally THE most important reason we increase our ginger intake in winter, is because it fights of its antibacterial properties to boost the immune system and fight of all the bacteria bad guys!

BOOM!!! So down this baby knowing you are strengthening your immune system whilst sipping away to a tasty treat!

Ingredients (*Choose organic where possible)

- ½ Banana (frozen)

- 1 cup Coconut Yogurt (or Greek Yoghurt)

- 2 tbsp Almond Butter

- 1 tbsp Rice Malt Syrup

- 2 tsp Hemp Seeds

- 1 tbsp. grated fresh ginger

- ¼ tsp cinnamon

- ¼ tsp nutmeg

- ¼ tsp cardamom

Method

- Add all ingredients to your blender/Nutribullet, blend for 1 minute.

Lemon Meringue Coconut Smoothie

Lemons are fresh in season now and they are loaded with vitamin C! Perfect for these winter months. A great tip, as you may know, is to start your day with a warm glass of lemon water to clear the toxins and start up your metabolism for the day! Well I have just made a super yummy way to add on and up your detoxifying lemon goodness.

This smoothie is super light and honestly tastes like a lemon meringue pie! It's so balanced and deeeeeelish! 

Side Note: When making this smoothie, it is important to use Organic Lemons. As we are using the zest of the lemon. if you purchase commercial lemons they will contain numerous chemicals AND wax! Which is almost impossible to remove completely? That is something you do not want in your body!! Also ensure you are using fresh lemon juice.

Ingredients (*Choose organic where possible)

- Half banana (frozen)

- Half zucchini (frozen)

- Vanilla protein

- Cashew butter

- 2 tsp desiccated coconut

- 1/2 Coconut milk

- 1/3 cup lemon juice (fresh)

- 1 tsp lemon zest

Method

- Add all ingredients to your nutribullet or blender. Blend for 1 minute and Enjoy!
