Drinkable Beauty Potions to Clear Your Skin

Skin is your body’s largest and fastest growing organ. It’s easy to forget that skin is more than just fancy wrapping paper enveloping your body. Skin is the first thing we see when we look in the mirror and therefore has a tough job when it comes to living up to our expectations.

Nurture your beauty with compassion, and work from the inside out. These 5 delicious and healthy bevy’s are a great place to start:

Green Tea

It’s no secret that tea is harmonious for our wellbeing. In fact, it is known to reduce stress levels when it comes to the meditative benefits of ‘taking 5’, to sip a warm cuppa. The really good news is, tea is rich in polyphenols which are molecules with antioxidant properties. Drink green tea to reduce the effects of free radicals and maintain healthy skins cells. Co-founder of Matcha Maiden, Sarah Holloway agrees that “beauty and wellness absolutely go hand in hand.”

Pomegranate Juice

Did you know the nutrients in pomegranates may prolong the life of cells in your body that produce collagen and elastin? Nurturing the collagen factories in the skin can result in improved overall skin tone. Vitamin E and minerals such as copper contained in pomegranates, also provide the skin with natural protection from the sun. Pomegranate is known for its anti-inflammatory properties which is great news for your skin health, plus it may protect against certain cancers and Alzheimers.

Cucumber Water

Next time you’re feeling thirsty, try cucumber water. Not only is cucumber made up of more than 90% water, it also contains silica which provides extra benefits to the skin, along with hydration. Simply add chopped cucumber to your water to help reduce swelling and water retention, like the appearance of puffiness under the eyes. As an added benefit, you’ll be supporting your immune system, cucumber also contains large amounts of nutrients such as vitamin C.

Green Smoothie

Whether you’re into the cruciferus cool kid, kale or the likes of sexy spinach, it’s no secret that green smoothies are a popular health tonic. Leafy greens can be consumed for their many skin benefits. Kale drives the Porsche when it comes to Vitamin A, a vital nutrient in skin health. But spinach packs a punch with its high amounts of folate, associated with DNA repair. Both help to keep your skin looking its best. Also very green and delicious is avocado (you know it!) which hydrates and protects the skin. But don’t let these green machines cloud your judgement, add a handful of raspberries and a teaspoon of freshly grated turmeric root to your smoothies, to boost antioxidant power and reduce inflammation.

Soy Milk Latte

A pleasant surprise on the healthy skin drink menu! According to dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, M.D., the isoflavones in soy help protect collagen in the skin. Not only that but Dr Nazarian cites the reduction of darkening and discoloration of skin minerals, as an added bonus from the proteins contained in soy milk. Caffeine is also said to reduce the risk of cancer and may also prevent skin cancer. Although, moderation is the key, excess caffeine intake can affect the regulation of your body, thus reducing its health benefits.

For best results, stay hydrated with H2O. Every cell, organ and tissue in your body needs water to work effectively. If your body is functioning well on the inside, it will show on the outside. Not only that but when you feel good, you’ll have a healthier outlook, and more energy to focus on living a fulfilling life.
